Attorney Profile
Mr. Martin P. “Marty” McDonnell has been practicing Criminal Law in Florida for over 38 years. After graduating from Florida State University Law School, he was employed as an Assistant Public Defender for three years and was then engaged in the private practice of Criminal Law. Later, Marty joined the Broward County State Attorney’s office and became the head of the Organized Crime Unit. During his 9 year tenure, he was sworn in as a Special Assistant United States Attorney assigned to Strike Force cases in the Southern District of Florida and as a Special Assistant Florida Statewide Prosecutor (1996-1999).
Mr. McDonnell was also employed in the executive branch of government as assistant general counsel to Governor Bush. His duties as assistant general counsel included the representation of Governor Bush and the Executive Branch before the Florida Supreme Court and counseling the executive agency secretaries and attorneys regarding all aspects of Florida Criminal Law, including death penalty issues. Since leaving the governor’s office in 2000, he has concentrated his practice to focus primarily on aggressive criminal defense.
Mr. McDonnell is a member in good standing of the Florida Bar and served for six years on the Criminal Rules Committee of the Bar. He has been elected four times to the Executive Council of the Criminal Law Section of the Bar, where he currently serves. He is admitted to practice in United States District Courts in the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
